Quick Start Guide

  1. Choose Your Generator:

From the homepage, select either the Planet Generator for creating planetary surfaces or the Background Generator for space environments.

  2. Explore Presets:

Start with the preset buttons to see different styles (Terran, Ice, Volcanic for planets; various nebula types for backgrounds).

  3. Customize Parameters:

Adjust sliders and settings in the control panels to fine-tune your generation.

  4. Generate & Export:

Click "Generate" to create new variations, then "Export" to save as PNG when you like what you see.

  5. Save to Gallery:

Use the gallery feature to save your favorite configurations for later use.

public Planet Generator Tutorial

Basic Controls

Diameter

Size of the planet in pixels (30-900). Larger planets show more detail but take longer to generate.

Noise Scale

Controls terrain detail frequency. Lower values = larger features, higher values = more detailed terrain.

Sea Level

Threshold determining water/land ratio. 0.5 = balanced, lower = more land, higher = more water.

Seed

Random number that determines terrain pattern. Same seed = same planet. Use "Random" for new patterns.

Advanced Features

Color Customization

Create custom color schemes by:

  • Adjusting threshold values (0-1) to control where colors appear
  • Changing colors using the color picker
  • Adding/removing color stops for more complex gradients
  • Lower thresholds appear in deeper/lower terrain

Cloud Settings

Add atmospheric effects:

  • Density: How much cloud coverage
  • Scale: Size of cloud formations
  • Color: Cloud tint (usually white/grey)

Animation Features

Bring planets to life:

  • 3D Surface Rotation: Simulates planet rotation by shifting noise coordinates
  • Simple Rotation: Rotates the entire planet image
  • Sprite Sheet Export: Generate rotation frames for game animations

Debris Mode

Create asteroid-like objects with additional controls:

  • Cut-out Settings: Shape the irregular outline
  • Erosion: Add surface weathering effects
  • Deformation: Create non-spherical shapes

gradient Background Generator Tutorial

Heads Up:

The background generator is still quite unfinished and may not produce the best results yet. That being said, you can still get some pretty neat stuff out of it if you play with the values.

Canvas Settings

Dimensions

Set width and height (64-512px). Consider your target use case - game tiles often use powers of 2.

Tileable

Enable for seamless tiling. Perfect for repeating background patterns in games.

Nebula Controls

Noise Layers

  • Primary Scale: Large-scale nebula structures
  • Secondary Scale: Medium detail layer
  • Detail Scale: Fine surface details
  • Density: Overall nebula thickness
  • Turbulence: Chaotic swirling effects

Star Generation

Basic Star Settings

  • Density: Number of stars (0.001-0.03)
  • Star Clusters: Group stars in realistic clusters
  • Size Range: Min/max pixel size for stars
  • Edge Avoidance: Keep stars away from borders

Star Colors

Create stellar populations by adding multiple star colors representing different stellar types (white, blue, orange, red).

Effects

  • Glow Effect: Adds atmospheric glow around bright areas
  • Glow Intensity: Controls the strength of the glow effect

lightbulb Tips & Tricks

🎨 Creating Unique Looks

Experiment with extreme noise scale values (very low for alien landscapes, very high for detailed rocky surfaces).

🌊 Ocean Worlds

Set sea level to 0.7-0.8 and use blue color schemes for water-dominated planets.

🔥 Volcanic Planets

Use the Volcanic preset, then adjust colors to add more orange/red lava flows.

❄️ Ice Worlds

Low sea levels with white/blue colors create frozen landscapes.

🌌 Deep Space

Use dark colors with low nebula density and few, bright stars for empty space.

⚡ Performance

Large planets (800-900px) can be slow on mobile. Use 200-400px for better performance.

📱 Mobile Workflow

Lock the canvas to keep it visible while adjusting controls below.

🎮 Game Assets

Use consistent size and color palette across your generated assets for cohesive game art.

help Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use generated content commercially?

Yes! All generated content is released under CC0, meaning you can use it however you like, including commercial projects.

Why do some planets look the same?

If you use the same seed value, you'll get identical results. Click the random seed button or manually change the seed number for different planets.

How do I make tileable backgrounds?

In the Background Generator, check the "Tileable" option in Canvas Settings. This ensures the background will seamlessly repeat.

Can I save my work?

Yes! Use the gallery feature to save your favorite settings locally in your browser. You can also export images as PNG files.

What image formats are supported?

Currently, you can only export as PNG images. This format preserves transparency and quality for digital art use.

Does this work offline?

The generators work offline once loaded, but you need an internet connection for the initial page load and to save to the gallery.

Why is generation slow on my device?

Large planets require more processing. Try reducing the diameter or using a more powerful device. Mobile devices may be slower for large generations.

Can I suggest new features?

Feature suggestions and feedback are always welcome! Check the About page for contact information.
